Niagara on the lake

8th October 2014

After our first decent breakfast for some time, we are on the road to London, Ontario to pick up Carole's sister, Kathy and husband David, on our way to Niagara on the Lake. It was about a 2 hour drive to London, mostly on freeways, and it is a bit cloudy, but no rain quite and windy.

Most of the drive is through flat agricultural land

Arriving in London at 11.30 am, we spent a bit over an hour having a cup of coffee, at their friends place (where they had been staying), before heading of to our final destination. London is a very pretty town, and the autumn leaves starting to develop some real colour.

We are in Niagara on the Lake a few hours later, and with the help of Tom Tom, manage to locate our B&B, Panache, which is located within walking distance of the township.

"Panache" our B&B for the next 2 nights

The B&B is a small house with only a couple of guest rooms and we have the place to ourselves. It is very nicely decorated, very comfortable, and the host is very helpful.

After unpacking the car and settling inn, we walked into town, to have a look around and find somewhere to have dinner, as it is now around 5.30 pm.

The walk only takes about 20 minutes and along the way, we see many lovely homes and quite a lot of squirrels running around, probably provisioning for winter.

One of the many nice homes along our walk

Squirrels everywhere, (see the one heading up the tree as well)

The main street of the town is filled with restaurants, pubs, up market shops and a myriad of art and craft outlets.

It is getting a bit dark for decent photos, but we will be back tomorrow for a better look around. One shop in particular , though appears to be attracting a lot of photographers.

The town is pretty busy, despite it being the end of the tourist season. We stuck our head in a few pubs that served meals, but they were packed. Eventually at the far end of the street we found one not so full and ventured in.

The food was only OK and the servings small (a bit of a shock after everywhere else we have been you struggle to eat what is on the plate). Anyway, the beer was good. Just as well we had a big breakfast.

Tomorrow we will choose better.
