All Day at Sea

19th October 2014

It was a bit of a bumpy night as the wind rose and seas increased accordingly. The Captain explained that we may be in for a bit of rough weather today, as we are now some 140 miles off the USA coast ( to minimize the effects of the North Flowing Gulf Stream ), will later today cross the Gulf stream and head back closer in to the mainland. It will take about 4 hours to cross the Gulf Stream, and after that we should be in calmer water. All of this should occur buy about 10pm tonight.

We discover that there are 165 Aussies on board, making up about 15% of the total passenger list. We really expected that it would be much less.

In the meantime, we have gale force winds, and bumpy, but not huge seas. The weather is apparently the aftermath of Hurricane Gonzales , which passed through Bermuda, a day or so ago.

It is an at sea day, so after our morning laps of the deck, and breakfast, we spend most of the day exploring the ship, and having a rest. Our trip so far has been reasonably fast paced, so a little relaxation doesn’t go astray.

The food on board is very good, in my opinion, better than we have had on the Princess Cruises we have been on.

It is a formal dinner night (not our cup of tea), but nevertheless make an effort to put on a tie and jacket. The dining room is only half full. I suspect there are quite a few people not feeling well. David Small is hanging in there but looks pretty green around the gills.

Another very nice meal, and Carole, Kathy and I go off to a show with two very talented singers.

The entertainers on board are also of a higher standard than we experienced on Princess Cruises.

Tomorrow is another at sea day.
